University of Minnesota, Morris employees, along with other Stevens County emergency responders, will participate in an emergency training exercise on Thursday, June 29, on campus from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. There will be increased traffic, police activity, and emergency vehicles on and near campus, it is just a drill.
This live emergency preparedness exercise will be similar to the train derailment response exercise coordinated by Stevens County in Morris last summer. In addition to UMM units, the exercise will include area law enforcement; Stevens County Emergency Management, EMS, and fire departments; University of Minnesota Emergency Management and University of Minnesota Duluth Police Department; the US Department of Homeland Security, and other emergency response teams in an active threat simulation and response.
This exercise is a part of ongoing efforts to prepare the University of Minnesota, Morris and various Stevens County emergency responders to respond quickly and effectively in the event of an actual emergency. Participants will gather for discussions on processes for responding to emergencies on and off campus.
